Recipe: D.I.Y Essential Oil Blend for Hair

Troubled hair but nothing on the commercial shelves is helping you? Why not try blending your own hair rescue remedy using your essential oils at home!

 Here are some of the essential oils you can use for your hair recipe:

Essential Oil

Benefits

Rosemary

Combats premature greying and thinning of hair. Best suited for people with oily hair

Cedarwood

Improves blood circulation and stimulates hair follicles

Clary Sage

Regulates oil production and controls dandruff. Extremely useful to prevent premature baldness

Lemon

Ideal for oily scalp with dandruff or scalp acne. Antiseptic and antimicrobial properties help to dry sebum

Peppermint

Rejuvenates hair follicles and promotes hair growth. Opens up clogged pores.

Tea Tree

Number 1 remedy for dandruff, unclogs hair follicles, helps with normal flow if skin oils

Ylang Ylang

Combats scalp dryness, stimulates sebaceous glands and increases sebum production.

Chamomile

Anti-inflammatory properties relieve itchy and scaly scalp. Protects from environmental pollutants.

 

As all essential oils mentioned above are very potent, you should not use them directly on you scalp. Simply mix a few drops of essential oil in a suitable carrier oil. One recommendation is rice bran oil which is high in Vitamin B and is non-clogging to the skin due to its lightweight texture.

Depending on the nature of your scalp, use the appropriate essential oil and blend before applying onto your scalp.

#1 Hair Mist

You will need:

  • Aloe Vera juice (2 table spoons)
  • Vegetable glycerin (1 tea spoon)
  • Apricot Oil (1 table spoons)
  • Vitamin E Oil (10ml)
  • Your choice of essential oil (10ml)
  • Distilled water (1/4 cup)

Directions:

  1. Start with ¼ cup of distilled water into a spray bottle
  2. Add all ingredients into the bottle of distilled water and shake to combine.

 

#2 Scalp Refresher

You will need:

  • Water (1/2 cup)
  • Organic green tea bags (2 bags)
  • Choice of essential oils (25 drops)
  • Jojoba Oil (2 table spoons)
  • Vitamin E Oil (2 table spoons)

Directions:

  1. Boil ½ cup of water and add 2 organic green tea bags into boiling water for 5 minutes.
  2. Allow the green tea infused water to cool
  3. Add remaining ingredients and essential oils into a spray bottle and shake to combine.

 

#3 Hair Cream

You will need:

  • Shea Butter (2 table spoons)
  • Coconut Oil (1/2 table spoon)
  • Olive Oil (1/2 table spoon)
  • Jojoba Oil (3/4 tea spoon)
  • Sweet Almond Oil (3/4 teaspoon)
  • Pure Aloe Vera Gel (1/2 tablespoon)
  • Vitamin E Oil (12 drops)
  • Choice of essential oils (15-20 drops)

Directions:

  1. Combine shea butter and coconut oil in a glass measuring cup or mason jar. Melt in a microwave for a few seconds.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and mix well while cooling.
  3. Refrigerate for several hours or overnight until mixture is cooled and set. Remove from refrigerator and allow mixture to come to room temperature before using.
  4. Store at room temperature for a nice, creamy consistency and use within a month.
