Advice for Essential Oil Poisoning

Essential oil poisoning can be very serious especially when not treated immediately. While the following tips will not help you recover completely, they will provide temporary relief and prevent the symptoms of the poisoning from getting worse.

Recommendations for various poisoning cases

Eye exposure

  • Quickly wash your eyes thoroughly under running water and ensure the water flow from the corner of your eye that is nearest to your nose to flow across your eye and out the other corner. Continue doing this for about 15 minutes.

Inhalation

  • Immediately go outdoors and inhale fresh air.

Skin

  • Take off the clothes that has been soiled by the essential oil and clean the skin with soap and water.

Ingestion

  • Wash your mouth immediately. Prevent yourself from vomiting if you do feel nauseous. Do not ingest any oral fluids until a professional says it is okay to do so. This will increase the risk of vomiting and aspiration of fluid into the lungs.

Conclusion

While I hope it will never happen to you, these tips will come in handy if incidents do occur.  These may even save your life if you experience essential oil poisoning. As long as you follow the directions on the essential oil bottle, you should not have any concerns for essential oil poisoning.
